Towards the end of the last decade, online streaming giant Netflix shared a glimpse of the highly anticipated first ever African original crime drama series Queen Sono on their platform.
It had people talking but soon as they announced who will be the lead it had the masses gushing with excitement.
Yes! Our very own Pearl Thusi was announced as the lead of the six part crime drama series, which is also written and directed by comedian Kagiso Lediga, who also had a box office record breaking first weekend with the movie Matwetwe grossing just over R900 000 early 2019.
As soon as the release date for Queen Sono 28 February 2020 was announced Netflix then dropped the trailer to keep viewers slobbering for more. In the trailer Pearl Thusi is joined by more of mzansi’s starling talent, the likes of comedian Loyiso Madinga, Khathu Ramabulana (Shadow), Enhle Maphumulo, Vuyo Dabula and the legendary Abigail Kubeka.
The story about a highly trained South African surreptitious agent but yet unorthodox spy who goes on life threatening missions all over Africa but also faces life changing relationships in her personal life.
Filming for the first season was shot on different locations all over Africa, including; Johannesburg South Africa, Lagos Nigeria, Kenya and Zanzibar Tanzania. Africa it is time!
