#MusicMonday: New music and game changing moves

The fusion of hip hop and kwaito has helped put South African music on the global music scene. Before this shift the South African sound was highly influenced by the American fusions. The lack of South African music on local platforms sparked a huge debate locally; fortunately this motivated artists to come up with more unique ways of getting their music heard.

We are greatly blessed with an eclectic mix of musicians that help bring a different elements to the music industry of this diverse country. Rising talent Catch XXll has been making waves in the music industry as a producer, songwriter and recording artist. The Mahikeng born producer has recently released his hot single Widdit featuring Streets and Rhuff Sketch, its that type of track that epitomizes the word “fusion” , you can hear the different alternative sounds with notes of classic hip hop elements.

Catch XXll is currently working on a project that is promised to drop soon with more notable features. Based on the sound of his latest single you can tell that the boy is ready to fly. The track is available on all music streaming platforms.

The wait is over, Kwesta has released his first song for the year; I guess we can let it slide because Mr Dakar has blessed us with two hot tracks; one with a Riky Rick feature titled Finesse. 2Skeif is the title of Dakar’s EP and in the first track titled Njandini Kwesta returns to a similar sound used on hit songs like Ngud, Spirit and Vur Vai.

Njandini gives that 90s kwaito feel as Kwesta tells tales from the streets and if you listen to the second verse you will hear a Magesh reference. The second song Finesse featuring Riky Rick falls more on the modern day hip hop sound with a more primitive baseline that carries Kwesta’s sing along raps that remind us of songs like Nomayini. Riky Rick appears with an effective but short verse that balances with being self-centred with a dash of social commentary.

2Skeif is out on all music streaming sites and kindly tell if you would enjoy skeifing the two songs to your mates.

The highly anticipated Johustleburg single by award winning rapper Emtee is finally out. Emtee gave the world a snippet of his latest single during the Instagram Live song battle with Nasty C. In the song the rapper speaks with affection about the City of Gold and the dangers of living in it.

The song “Johustleburg” was produced by Ruff, a producer who has been with Emtee through thick and thin as well as behind majority of the rappers hit songs and projects. The song is a bit calm in nature which is also ironic especially Johannesburg being one of the most busiest cities in the world and as Emtee sings; one needs to watch themselves when they out there.

“Johustleburg” trended when Emtee shared a little preview of the song and it is finally out. Kindly download and show Emtee some love while you at it.
